SIRENS OF THE 23RD CENTURY

Written and Directed by Jennifer M. Kroot
2003, 86 minutes.

JENNIFER KROOT IN PERSON!

"In SIRENS OF THE 23RD CENTURY, Jennifer Kroot (IT CAME FROM KUCHAR) recreates a world where exaggerated femininity is outlawed. No fashion; no make-up; no silicone breasts; and no self-obsessing beautification. All behaviors such as plucking, tweezing, and concealing are banned—punishable by imprisonment in "fashion work camps" or death. The Facist and conservative Men's Plainness Advocacy has eliminated ancient beauty, asserting that beautiful women are disposable.

So what's a girl to do? Call in the Beauty Renegades—the self-proclaimed "victims of the 23rd century" who execute regular guerilla raids on their repressive government. After all, "A life without skin care is not a life worth living," professes Princess Helen, the narrator and principle heroine who escapes Troy (her appointed lover) only to meet lustful Dianna, the Amazonian leader of the feminist movement. Together they must contend with the gender-bending antics of Dianna's sidekick Gabriel, the Renegade defector Liluth (who has stolen the Hanger 51 sex files that jeopardize the Plainness Advocacy's regime), and even Dianna's own wealth of over-the-top insecurities that fuel this perverse, coming-of-age fantasy lived out in a colorful and bizarre parallel universe." - FRAMELINE. With Rod Chaouqi, Paul D'Addario, Felecia Faulkner, Trevor Hale, Richard Harder, and Rachel Klyce. Puppet Wrangling & Organ Donations by Tina Kroot.
