more details » #Oakland: Loving Outside the Lines: The Transformative Potential of Being Queer Loving Outside the Lines: The Transformative Potential of Being Queer At Seminary of the Street and First Congregational Church of Oakland, we believe that "queerness"--the capacity to challenge the rules about who may love whom--can change the world. Join us for an inclusive and empowering workshop in which we'll explore the ways the dominant culture polices who may love whom and how that policing serves injustice and exploitation. Then we will celebrate and strengthen our God-given capacity as queer people, individually and collectively, to love outside the lines, in other words, to enter into solidarity with all suffering people everywhere. The workshop, open to people of all faiths as well as those who might identify as spiritual but not religious, will enable each of us to: * claim our own wholeness and resist taking on the fear directed at us * get to know other queer people in a friendly, clean and sober environment * make connections between our suffering and the suffering of all others who are oppressed, exploited, and threatened with violence * identify ways for us to demonstrate love and solidarity with all life, across lines of difference, by challenging racism, sexism, classism, ageism, ability-ism, and every form of oppression Thursday, June 24, 6-9pm Suggested donation of $10-20; no one turned away for inability to pay First Congregational Church of Oakland, 2501 Harrison St. in Oakland Email us at ntorbett@seminaryofthestreet.org to sign up.
