The 6th Annual Poems Under the Dome at City Hall

The 6th Annual Poems Under the Dome

Poems Under the Dome invites you to celebrate National Poetry Month on April 27, 2011, from 5:30 to 8:00 p.m. Come to City Hall, and read your favorite poem or perform one of your own at San Francisco's largest open mic poetry event inside City Hall.

Poems Under the Dome will be held in the North Light Court of City Hall, #1 Dr. Carlton B. Goodlett Place. The event begins at 5:30 with a poem by Diane di Prima, San Francisco's Poet Laureate.

This unusual opportunity to express one's self in such a unique setting always proves to be popular, and on the day of the reading each of the performance slots will be apportioned by lottery and limited to three minutes for each reader.

Lotteries will also be held for reading slots prior to the event during the month of April at poetry open mics in San Francisco. Please visit our website for more details, http://www.poemdome.org.

Poems Under the Dome started six years ago when Diamond Dave Whitaker sat atop a hill, saw the glistening City Hall dome and exclaimed, "We need to do a poetry open mic THERE!" Through the incredible support of the Mayor's Office, the Board of Supervisors, John Avalos and his staff, the San Francisco Public Library, Viracocha Performance Space, Kaleidoscope Free Speech Zone, and many local sponsors, this event will celebrate poetry for the sixth year in the most inclusive, exclusively San Francisco way. Come join us! Participate or just listen in, and celebrate National Poetry Month at Poems Under the Dome.
