Reminder: Holly Hughes: The Dog and Pony Show at The Marsh @ Sun Feb 27 7pm - 8pm (Queer Things)
Holly Hughes: The Dog and Pony Show at The MarshThe Marsh is very excited to host the incredible Holly Hughes for a limited run of "The Dog And Pony Show": A new solo show written and performed by 2010 Guggenheim recipient Holly Hughes and directed by Dan Hurlin. A blend of autobiography, animal behavior and bald faced lies, "Dog and Pony" is a poetic/comic meditation on the midlife crisis in the key of canine by the woman who drove Jesse Helms nuts. Or nuttier. After several years as a professional lesbian, Hughes gives up preaching to the perverted and takes a real job at a prestigious university, acquiring a small pack of dogs in the process. She discovers that as we age, the thin membrane between the animal and the human dissolves entirely. Time doesn't heal or heel, it brings new questions: "What is the sound of one lesbian clapping?" thurs at 8pm The Marsh MainStage, 1062 Valencia St. (near 22nd) tickets: http://themarsh.org/Holly_Hughes.html

Reminder: Berkeley: The Nature of Nomenclature: An exploration of (... @ Sat Feb 26 8pm - 9pm (Queer Things)
Berkeley: The Nature of Nomenclature: An exploration of (re)naming within queer communitiesThe Nature of Nomenclature: An exploration of (re)naming within queer communities a collaborative performance featuring Ada Pinkston, Annah Anti-Palindrome, Jai Arun Ravine with Jorrit Poelen, NCN and Ri Molnár with Carrie Elzey. We are queer Bay Area artists exploring the phenomenon of re-naming within our communities in a collaborative, witty, charming, silly, sexy, charged, gripping performance that you will never forget! Join us as we delve into the ABYSS OF NAMES (to which dead names return and from which new names spring) and investigate naming in relationship to time, place and visibility, identity tourism and consumption, and magic. Collaboratively we will create a multi-media performance that challenges performance genre segregation by integrating dance, storytelling, experimental music, video, theater, sound, games facilitation, and audience participation. Beyond our devotion to our respective art forms, we are dedicated organizers and agents of change within our communities. With our art, we give voice to radical queer perspective and challenge the dominant paradigm. The idea for this collaboration was sparked when a few of us performed a benefit for the US Social Forum together. In each other we found peers and inspiration. We hope to insight the same inspiration in YOU! February 25, 8:30 PM This performance is made possible through the Subterranean Arthouse Artist in Residency Program.

Reminder: Gay Shame Meetings at Modern Times @ Sat Feb 26 5:30pm - 7pm (Queer Things)
Gay Shame Meetings at Modern TimesGAY SHAME is a Virus in the System. We are committed to a queer extravaganza that brings direct action to astounding levels of theatricality. We will not be satisfied with a commercialized gay identity that denies the intrinsic links between queer struggle and challenging power. We seek nothing less than a new queer activism that foregrounds race, class, gender and sexuality, to counter the self-serving "values" of gay consumerism and the increasingly hypocritical left. We are dedicated to fighting the rabid assimilationist monster with a devastating mobilization of queer brilliance. GAY SHAME is a celebration of resistance: all are welcome. GAY SHAME meets every Saturday in the Tede Mathews Reading Room of Modern Times Bookstore @ 888 Valencia btw 19th + 20th. Meeting time is 5:30PM, which means that people begin to arrive at 5:30PM and we start the meeting no later than 5:45PM. In addition, we often hold smaller meetings throughout the week to plan specific actions and activities. http://www.gayshamesf.org
