Reminder: Coyote Grace and Mamuse at Great American Music Hall @ Sun Sep 30 8pm - 9pm (Queer Things)
Coyote Grace and Mamuse at Great American Music HallDOORS - 7:30pm / SHOW - 8:00pm Great American Music Hall, 859 O'Farrell St., San Francisco, CA ALL AGES 6+ PRICE : $12.00 "Coyote Grace plays with the heart of traditional country and Americana music, but tells their stories with a bold twist. They write heartwrenching melodies and make such textured harmonies that I find myself enraptured and taken by their timelessness of song." – Amy Ray (Indigo Girls) If you'd like to watch from a front-row seat as roots music reinvents itself, look no further than Coyote Grace. At once both radically progressive and unashamedly nostalgic, the trio is at the forefront of a growing movement to redefine the meanings of "roots" and "tradition." Armed with a bevy of acoustic instruments from guitar and upright bass to banjo, mandolin, fiddle, and accordion, Coyote Grace's Joe Stevens, Ingrid Elizabeth and Michael Connolly fill theater, club, and festival stages with a wash of sound seemingly far too expansive for three musicians, mixing bluegrass and blues, soul and Southern twang into a unique sound that hovers just beyond the edge of 'familiar.' The sultry trio combines virtuosic musicianship combined with a humble, warm stage presence, all stemming from a history of self-invention – and re-invention. http://www.slimspresents.com/events/2012-09-30/coyote-grace/

In response to both the recent economic and ecological crises, his newest work, Turbulence (a dance about the economy), was instigated before the recent Occupy Wall Street uprising. Like the Occupy movement itself, Turbulence plays with and disregards the generally accepted rules of engagement. A collaborative creation, the work is a hybrid of contemporary dance, improvised happening and political theater and is intended as both a provocation and affirmation of the current global movement for economic justice. It is an experiment not only in performance, but also in developing alternative modes of producing performance. Integrating new cast members for each performance, Turbulence resists fixed or predetermined outcomes; improvisation is seen as both a survival strategy and political tactic. Faerie Coffee now at Mint Cafe in Main LibraryI hate to do this to you as I just announced our return to the CCC, but it seems their new closing hours on Saturdays will be 1 PM, which is as early as some Faeries can arrive. So, we will continue to hold Faerie Coffee at the Mint Café in the basement of the Main Library on Saturdays from NOON to 2 PM. Today, we had a nice gathering of five Faeries, myself included, so lets try to up the numbers or at least keep them going. We had a lovely conversation today and, in these complicated times, I think it wise that we continue to stay in touch and share our points of view about the fate of the world, Faerie and otherwise. Here is location information for all who require it: http://www.mintsf.com/ SF Main Public Library 100 Larkin St Lower Level

Reminder: Wilde Chats at Sweet Inspirations @ Sat Sep 29 10:30am - 11:30am (Queer Things)
Wilde Chats at Sweet InspirationsHaven't had a really good meaningful conversation lately? Then come and explore Wilde Chats, one of The Community Initiative's most popular activities. Meeting at a variety of San Francisco's distinctive neighborhood cafes, a large diverse group of gay men explores topics and issues that are important to us as gay men. A great way to make new friends on a level that doesn't usually happen in bars or clubs. Wilde Chats is a loosely structured community-driven group get together every Saturday morning to discuss specific issues affecting us as gay men and our gay community. The group is lead following a "Socratic" model; rather than talk about solutions and answers to problems, the idea is to expand on the days topic by analyzing it and breaking it up into other questions. The discussions typically focus on the hidden/unspoken assumptions, generalities and concepts that we as gay men make, and the differences that our various points of reference imply. Wilde Chats are currently taking place at the times and locations listed below. Wilde Chats meets 10:30AM - 12:00PM Saturdays at Sweet Inspirations, 2239 Market Street between Sanchez and Noe.

Reminder: "Play Fair! The Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence Make Sex ... @ Fri Sep 28 7pm - 9pm (Queer Things)
"Play Fair! The Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence Make Sex Safer" exhibit opens at GLBT History Museum"Play Fair! The Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence Make Sex Safer" sheds light on a modest brochure that broke new ground by launching the gay community's sex-positive response to the AIDS crisis. Since 1979, the Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence have transformed GLBT politics, activism and volunteerism. One major contribution is the long-running Play Fair campaign, one of the first gay safe-sex initiatives. In 1982, six sisters produced the initial Play Fair brochure, designed to get the gay community talking about prevention and treatment of sexually transmitted infections in a language free of judgment and guilt. The first edition came out just as GLBT people began to grapple with what would become the AIDS epidemic. In the 30 years since, the brochure has been updated twice while retaining all its original potency, humor and vitality. Produced in partnership with the Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence Inc., the "Play Fair!" exhibit will open with a public reception on Friday, September 28, 7:00 - 9:00 p.m. GLBT History Museum, 4127 18th St. near Castro, San Francisco, CA
