The San Francisco LGBTQ Sangha

The San Francisco LGBTQ Sangha Welcomes You. We invite you to our weekly meditation sitting group. Our group meets from 5:30 to 6:30pm each Monday, except holidays, and have been meeting since July 2002. We explore mindfulness, meditation, and spiritual practice in our day to day lives and focus on cultivating an open awareness spacious enough to include whatever arises moment to moment. It is a wonderful way to bring closure to your activities of the day. Format: meditation 30 min, topic discussion, dharma talk, or guest speaker 20-25 min short sitting 3-5 min. There group sustains itself through voluntary donations which in the Buddhist tradition is called the practice of "dana" or generosity. It is a drop-in group, so please join us in supporting and deepening our collective mindfulness practice. SF Zine Fest

The San Francisco Zine Fest is a free, annual celebration of small-press publishing from zines and comics to art books and beyond from 11 am to 5 pm on August 31 and September 1, 2013.

Over the two-day festival at the San Francisco County Fair Building in Golden Gate Park, over 140 small-press and DIY creators will be selling, trading, and otherwise sharing their work. There are tons of free workshops and panels and, as always, the show is free to attend.

Noon to 2 pm
Exquisite Corpse - Take part in the first ever SFZF Exquisite Corpse Project. Borrowing from the Surrealist styles of times past, theywill provide art supplies and an oversized canvas for all attendees to leave their mark on, resulting in a one-of-a-kind collage of creativity and craftsmanship. This event will take place on the Main Stage in Room B, so make sure to stop by and show your stuff.

Roman Muradov Spotlight - This SFZF Special Guest Spotlight highlights the work of illustrator and cartoonist Roman Muradov. Roman's illustration work has appeared in the New York Times and the Wall Street Journal among others. His first graphic novel, (In a Sense) Lost & Found comes out this fall from Nobrow Press. Roman will be present to speak about his work and process. Moderated by writer and filmmaker Channing Kennedy.

Digital DIY: Creating Art with the Help of Social Media and Crowdfunding - SF local Doctor Popular discusses using social media sites like Instagram and Twitter to collaborate with fans, as well as providing a closer look at his experience and suggestions for crowdfunding your art. His newest photo zine, American Analog, was successfully funded with help from Kickstarter.

Sophia Foster-Dimino Spotlight - This SFZF Special Guest Spotlight highlights the work of illustrator, Google Doodler, zine-maker and animator Sophia Foster-Dimino. Sophia's first long-form comic will be published by Retrofit this fall. Sophia will be present to speak about her work and process. Moderated by writer and filmmaker Channing Kennedy.

3:30-4:20 pm
Zinesters Assemble: Pages Are Just the Beginning - Local bookartist Bettina Pauly brings her zine-making savvy to SFZF. Armed with a variety of techniques for creating easy (yet unusual) book/zine structures, this is the perfect workshop to get you motivated about a current project or inspired to start a new one. Class space is limited to 15 people; seating is on a first come/ first serve basis. All materials are provided, but be sure to arrive early.
