Farmcore: The Punk Rock Years at YBCAhttp://www.ybca.org/farmcore Director Mike Kavanaugh in person. Started in 1974 as an environmental art project and model urban farm, The Farm had community gardens, art spaces, a library and a pre-school center. It was a radical experiment in community, art, and nature. Farmcore is not a history of The Farm; it documents the final years — long after the original founders had moved on. During this period The Farm hosted punk rock shows, until it became an early victim of gentrification in 1987. Appropriately ragged and zero-budget, Farmcore features concert footage of Scream, Cheetah Chrome, Frightwig, DOA, and others, interspersed with interviews with the staff as they struggle to keep the space open.
