About the Event:

Author Tom Mendicino will be joining us to read from his new book Probation.

After being arrested for solicitation in a public restroom, Andy Nocero is placed on probation. Subsequently, he is thrown out by his wife and fired by his father-in-law, leaving him no other option but to take refuge at his mother's house (where no questions are asked). The highlight of his week is his counseling session with a psychiatrist who's also a Jesuit priest. Answers don't come easily, but Andy gradually begins to search for the reasons why he would risk everything for an anonymous sexual encounter.

About the Author:

Tom Mendicino spent six raucous years roaming the country and eking out a living in the Sales Departments of several New York publishing houses before attending the law school of the University of North Carolina. His stories, some of them excerpts from Probation, have appeared in several recent anthologies.

Books Inc. is a locally owned and operated independent bookstore with 10 locations in California. Books Inc.'s origins date back to the Gold Rush days of 1851, when Anton Roman struck it rich in Shasta City, California and set himself up in business selling books. That small bookstore was moved, bought, sold, burned, rebuilt and renamed, and became Books Inc. as we know it today in 1946.

Today, with 10 stores and 200 employees, Books Inc. serves as a shining example that independent bookselling can survive and prosper, even if we must dance among the elephants.
