In Their Own Receive Them Not, Dr. Griffin gives voice to a group frequently ignored, denied, dismissed, and rejected: African American gay and lesbian Christians, and he shares ways in which black churches can learn to reach out and confront all types of oppression—not just race—in order to do the work of the black community. Alan Jones calls the book "a model for gays critiquing aspects of the Black Church culture without being called traitors or self-hating. But it's much more than that. It's also a vision of the glory of being human – all of us together without exception – in a community of a justice, love and compassion. He's a sane and clear voice in a time when prejudice and hysteria are still very much alive." The Rev. Will Scott, pastor of St. Cyprian's, offers "Our inaugural discussion focuses on a sensitive subject—the collision of faith, race, and sexuality—one that gets far too little attention in the mainstream media, even as many politicians and religious leaders continue to use our differences to divide us rather than draw us together." Dr. Griffin's discussion with Alan Jones launches Cyprian's Talks, a new conversation series, which aims to open discussion of challenging issues. About Horace L. Griffin Horace L.
