more details » Rex Ray art opening at Gallery 16 Opening Reception: Friday September 9th 6-9pm Gallery 16 is excited to present its seventh exhibition with San Francisco artist Rex Ray. The exhibition will feature new paintings and collage. Ray's work has become a fixture in the national contemporary art scene with its unmistakable graphic power. Ray's unique sensibility straddles both the world of Fine Art and Graphic Design. His paintings and collage have received acclaim in national and international art venues, and his ubiquitous graphic work has made him a staple on the international design scene. His biomorphic shapes pull from a 1950's aesthetic while grounded in an expressionistic lineage, resulting in lush, playfully sophisticated abstract compositions. Over the years Rex has created product lines that have included everything from unique wallpapers and textiles to I-pad cases. This fall, Gallery 16 and Rickshaw Messenger Bags are teaming up to create an original Rex Ray series. The unique bags will be used to raise money to benefit the work of Visual Aid. Founded in 1989, Visual Aid assists artists whose careers are challenged due to life- threatening illness. Ray's work has been featured in numerous exhibitions worldwide including The San Francisco Museum of Modern Art, University Art Museum in Berkeley, San Jose Museum of Modern Art, The Crocker Museum in Sacramento, Yerba Buena Center for the Arts in San Francisco, Museum of Contemporary Art, Denver and Los Angeles Contemporary Exhibitions.
