Reminder: Feminist and Sex Worker Victory March in the Castro @ Fri Oct 19 6pm - 8pm (Queer Things)

Feminist and Sex Worker Victory March in the Castro

Through community effort and activism, the SFPD has finally agreed to overturn the use of condoms as evidence in cases of prostitution. This is a landmark action acknowledging the human right of ALL to carry condoms and protect their own, and each others, reproductive and sexual health. The current directive is to cease this practice for a term of three to six months – with the Office of Citizens Complaints, District Attorneys and Public Defenders office all in agreement – we must demand cessation of this practice permanently with a process for accountability.

Join us as we take to the streets of the Castro, a coalition of feminists, sex workers, and allies raising our voices to inform the community about this issue and raise awareness so we can wipe out this common devastating practice from everywhere from Alameda County to New York!

We are asking members of the community to come join us on October 19th, 2012, 6pm to 8pm, at Jane Wagner Plaza in the Castro (across from Twin Peaks bar). This is a time for celebration and for healing. We have along way to go in rebuilding trust between the sex worker community and the City of San Francisco.

The march and action are endorsed by ACT-UP/San Francisco, Bay Area Occupride (Community Not Commodity), St James Infirmary and BAYSWAN. To add your organization or affinity group to this list, or to find out more about how to coordinate your involvement in the march, contact Carmen Simon at simon_carmen@hotmail.com.

Meet up is @ Jane Warner Plaza (401 Castro Street) 6pm to 8pm October 19th.
