Litcrawl: The New Sh!t ShowdownMission Bowling Club 3176 17th St., San Francisco, CA 6:00 - 7:00 pm, Oct 13,2012 This incarnation of the bi.weekly juggernaut of an open mic pits some of the bay area's fiercest writers against each other to debut some never before heard, read, or tested writings, poems, or explosions in a night of world premiers. Featuring Nic Alea, Cam Awkward-Rich, Jen(nifer) G(igantino), Toaster, and sam sax. Nic Alea co-hosts the bi-monthly New Poetry Mission reading series, co-facilitates a creative writing workshop at Solano Juvenile Detention Center, and has self published three chapbooks: Arcana, P.S. Crater Face was Here, and This Crumbled Bell Tower. Cam Awkward-Rich is a new kid on the block who sometimes sends poems off into the abyss for the hell of it. He'll tell you he's not a poet. Cam is a member of the 2012 Bay Area Unified slam team and a PhD student in Stanford's program in Modern Thought & Literature. Jen(nifer) G(igantino) is a writer, filmmaker, and aspiring hypothetical former marina trench explorer who has represented San Jose and Santa Cruz at the Individual World and National Poetry Slams. She's one half of the experimental horror-film production duo No-Penis Productions, winners of the 2008 Viscera Award for their film The Date. Toaster is an artist, organizer, and educator from Chicago's north side, who got his first start with Young Chicago Authors, performing in its Saturday writing program and poetry competition Louder Than A Bomb. Sam Sax is a queer Jewish poet and educator, Oakland's first queer grand slam champion. He runs The New Shit Show reading series. samhsax@gmail.com
