The description is a little different, too: The News, created by Kolmel WithLove and presented by SOMArts, spotlights queer experiments, debut works and works-in-progress by pre-selected solo artists, groups and troupes. On January 8, 2013, 7:30pm to 9pm, hosting guest curator Laura Arrington facilitates Breaking News, a one-night-only radical collaboration honoring the core values behind The News: to aid in the creation of new queer work and provide a place where Bay Area perferformance makers can take risks and identify new collaborators. The audience is invited to watch improvisational, collaborative and in-process performances created during the event, or to become part of the action. The News is a monthly offering of performance featuring new queer work. On the first Tuesday of each month The News casts a spotlight on performance pieces, experiments, debut works, and works in progress by pre-selected solo artists, groups, or troupes. An informal session for critical feedback follows the performances. Artists of any performance discipline or skill level can perform at The News. Artists interested in performing should fill out this Artist Survey. Questions can be directed to Kolmel WithLove at thenews@somarts.org. The News takes place on the first Tuesday of each month from 7:30-9pm. Tickets are $5, and advance tickets are recommended as space is limited.
