City Lights 60th AnniversaryEvent Description: CITY LIGHTS BOOKSTORE 60TH ANNIVERSARY PARTY Sunday, June 23, 2013—2:00 to 5:00 p.m. http://www.citylights.com/ PETER MARAVELIS, store events manager, will host readings by poets LAWRENCE FERLINGHETTI, MICHAEL McCLURE, RUTH WEISS, DAVID MELTZER, JACK HIRSCHMAN, BRENDA KNIGHT, NEELI CHERKOVSKI, DAVE BRINKS and IRIS BERRY with many other poets, writers, artists, musicians & friends of CITY LIGHTS in Jack Kerouac Alley and in the bookstore. AT 4:30 p.m., AS PART of the grand finale to the party, New Orleans poet / cultural historian DAVE BRINKS and Los Angeles poet / cultural historian IRIS BERRY will give a special presentation featuring an EXCLUISIVE first time ever public reading of unpublished / uncollected original poems by several BEAT GENERATION POETS whose works were recently discovered by Brinks in his hometown of NEW ORLEANS; all perfectly preserved inside seven old trunks after 55 years in the Bywater neighborhood adjacent to the FRENCH QUARTER. PETER MARAVELIS, store events manager, describes plans for the big 60th birthday party: "Beginning in late June of 2013, we will begin staging readings, music, educational events, both on and off site, and weekend parties in Kerouac Alley. Our special calendar will run for the remainder of the year. Our kickoff event will be an open house on Sunday, June 23, 2013 at the store. We'll open up our editorial offices for the day and everyone is invited. We'll be screening rare archival footage of author readings, have live presentations, and yummy treats. The whole community is invited!
