Reminder: Our Lady J Sings Dolly Parton's Gospel Hits at Rebel @ Sun Mar 16, 2014 8pm - 9pm (Queer Things)

Our Lady J Sings Dolly Parton's Gospel Hits at Rebel

Rebel, Also known as 1772 Market Street. Between Octavia St. & Mccoppin St. (1760 Market St. San Francisco, CA 94102)

Get ready to testify -- New York cabaret icon Our Lady J, considered the most talented post-religious gospel performer of her time, and her Train-To-Kill Gospel Choir take on the spiritual songs of Dolly Parton. Parton herself has given her personal stamp of approval to this heartfelt tribute, which features both the country megastar's hits and lesser-known tunes. A former classical pianist who worked as a musical director for stars like Cyndi Lauper, Debbie Harry, Lady Gaga, Elaine Stritch and others, Our Lady J quickly became famed on the underground scene for her signature live shows, giving traditional church music a glitzy rock twist with her soul-shaking voice and prodigious piano skills. Singer-accordionist-songwriter DavEnd, who's released a pair of solo albums, opens the show.
