Artist Reception: Beyond Tasteless: The Provocative Plates of Dewey Arsee'Who: Dewey Arsee', San Francisco Ceramic Artist, and Ruby's Gallery 552A Noe Street, San Francisco, CA, 94114 What: In conjunction with San Francisco Pride Month, San Francisco ceramic artist Dewey Arsee' will host an opening reception at his Castro studio on Friday, June 17, 2011 (6:00 – 9:00 p.m.), for his latest exhibition of work entitled, "Beyond Tasteless." Dewey creates one-of-a-kind handcrafted stoneware vases, plates and coffee mugs with occasionally explicit and often titillating themes. Rather than aiming to shock, however, his work offers a sensibility that can only be described as celebratory and affirmative— ideally suited for San Francisco Pride. The title for the show came from a reader's comment in The Advocate, which profiled Dewey's work. Instead of taking offense, however, Dewey found the comment humorous and -- somewhat ironically-- apt for a show that calls into question the nature of art, sex, everyday objects and taste itself. Dewey has worked in his Castro ceramic studio since 2000 and will be on-hand at the reception to discuss his work. More information about the artist can be found at http://www.deweyarsee.com - Some content is of an adult nature. When: June 17, 2011, 6:00 to 9:00 p.m. PT (Opening Reception) Show runs from June 17th through June 28, 2011 (Gallery Hours: 10-6pm every day)
