The following are brief descriptions of two of the projects Collage Theater is currently working on for the 2012 season: Box City "Of course, it was nothing at all to get out of the box. And since there was nothing to it, I felt no compulsive need to leave it. Yet I wanted someone, if possible, to lend me a hand." - Kobo Abe, The Box Man Collage Theater dives down the rabbit hole to discover what connections might lie between Kobo Abe, Alice in Wonderland, Pete Seeger and a bunch of cardboard boxes. This piece is an exploration of the plague of homelessness affecting our country and our city and hopes to shed light on the absurd approaches that our society and government have taken to "solve" this issue. Through exercises by Augusto Boal and Michael Rohd, among many others we will incorporate movement, text, music and media to allow the audience an immersive experience and a brief glimpse into this unfamiliar world. The rehearsals for The Garage Residency start in late November and run through our showing on Feb. 28-29. We are already exploring options for more funding and future residencies and performances of the work, which performers from The Garage Residency could have an option of being a part. "Everyday I Get Dressed" This piece plays with the idea of daily practice and the ways that we consent to put ourselves on display. We take a look at the interplay between performers and audience. How do performers seek to seduce an audience? How do audience members get what they want? Using a combination of improvisation, set movement phrases, tasks, and spoken texts, performers attempt to put themselves both physically and emotionally on display. Looking for performers willing to be themselves on stage, explore their own comfort with various aspects of the process, and interested in elements of audience-performer interactions. Technical dance training preferred but not required. -- The Collage Theater
