Our monthly open mic night, Smack Dab, is all ages, all genders, all
the time, and free.

If you'd like to perform at the open mic, please come beginning at
7:30pm and bring five minutes of whatever you want to share.
Musicians: one song. Prose writers: that's about two and a half double
spaced pages of prose. We're the friendliest open mic you'll find but
we pay attention to time so that nobody accumulates further open
mic-related PTSD.

Our May 15 feature is BeRn.

BeRn is one of those rare songwriters who can capture the enormity of
the universe within an everyday object. Raw and uplifting, her lyrics
veer from the socio-political to the intimate, while avoiding
self-indulgent tendencies.

She takes to the stage with a fiery presence and an appetite for
destruction, hell-bent on crushing the female singer/songwriter/poet
stereotype.

BeRn calls her music 'Frock', to describe her eloquent mix of folk,
punk angst, rock 'n' roll, feminism, ire, laughter and irrepressible
spirit.

An award winning slam poet BeRn offers up a heady mix of emotion and
rebellion. She recently opened for Martha Wainwright in San Francisco
and just released her new video "Fight", a pro-gay marriage song, on
YouTube.
