Reading: Timothy Jay Smith at main libraryJuly 16 - Reading from new gay novel SF Public Library, Hormel LGBT Room, 3rd floor, Main Branch, 100 Larkin Street - 6 pm Gay author Timothy Jay Smith discusses new (and already controversial) novel A Vision of Angels (winner of the Paris Prize for Fiction). He will touch on the changing gay protagonist in literature and strategic self-publishing (how he went from an indie to traditional publisher thanks to support from the gay community). Both literary and suspenseful, A Vision of Angels is a quick moving character-driven story about a terrorist event planned for Easter Sunday in Jerusalem which sets off a chain of events that weave together the lives of a gay American journalist, an Israeli war hero, a Palestinian farmer, and an Arab-Christian grocer. Tim's first novel, Cooper's Promise, about a gay soldier who promises to save a young girl who has been trafficked into prostitution to redeem himself for an earlier promise he coudn't keep, was selected by Kirkus Reviews as on of the Best Books of 2012.
