more details » Suicide Prevention for the LGBT Community Adult Education Training in Suicide Prevention for the LGBT Community At the recent town hall meeting "When the Rainbow Isn't Enough", Joe Palacios from the San Francisco Suicide Prevention offered to put on a training specifically for members of our community.A good number of people expressed interest in taking part in this. Here are the details about this upcoming training. Everyone is welcomed and we encourage everyone to attend. The training conducted by the folks at the San Francisco Suicide Prevention for the LGBT Community will be held: Tuesday July 16 7:30pm - 9pm (the location of the training will no longer be at the LGBT Center, the new location will be provided when you RSVP) This workshop will focus on the topics of suicide prevention, crisis intervention, how to recognize harmful behavior, how to be sensitive to someone who is in crisis, and LGBTQ-appropriate resources and referrals. The workshop has been designed to focus on suicide prevention in the community and for organizations serving LGBTQ clients. The workshop will be 90 minutes long. The presentation is designed to discuss how to: · Recognize self-destructive feelings and behaviors, assess for suicidality; · Learn the myths and facts about the prevalence of suicidal ideation and depression in; · The LGBTQ community using current statistics and research; · Understand more about the nature of mental health and depression; · Gain practical information on how to feel confident speaking to others in crisis; · Provide resources and information on how to get more help.
