more details » Long-Term AIDS Survivors Town Hall Meeting at SF LGBT Center Let's Kick (ASS) AIDS Survivor Syndrome and The Community Initiative Announce: 'The Definition of Brave' A Town Hall Meeting Spotlighting Long-Term AIDS Survivors September 18, 2013 7:00 pm at the SF LBGT Center. LetsKickASS.org and The Community Initiative hosts the Definition of Brave, the first Bay Area forum focused on long-term HIV survivors on September 18, 2013 from 7:00 to 9:00 PM. The meeting is being held at the San Francisco LGBT Community Center at 1800 Market St., San Francisco, CA 94102. Individuals testing HIV-positive during the first two decades of the AIDS Pandemic in essence received the equivalent of a death sentence. But, many with those living with HIV/AIDS for 20-30+ years are still living and thriving. Recent statistics show that there are 50,000 of us survivors from the early days (having tested positive before 2000). Not only are we survivors, we are the Definition of Brave. What does it mean to grow older when you've lived over half your life with a life-threatening illness. Now is the time for us long-term survivors to come together again to face the conundrum of our midlife and aging and begin talking about our strengths and resilience instead of dwelling on the things we've lost and what we've sacrificed. This grassroots town hall will be an opportunity to begin thinking differently about what it means to be long-term survivors. We have hard won lessons to share with each other, our POZ brethren, our community and the world. It is time to embrace our roles as AIDS Elders, teachers and leaders. This grassroots forum is the first Bay Area forum by, for, and about survivors. A diverse panel of long-term survivors—real people facing similar issues will lead off the evening's discussion.
