The Roxie Theater will host a special community screening of the recently completed documentary film BAD BLOOD: A CAUTIONARY TALE on January 31st at 7PM. Tickets are free but you must RSVP to rsvp@badblooddocumentary.com to obtain tickets.

BAD BLOOD chronicles, through the eyes of survivors and family members, how a "miracle" treatment for hemophilia became an agent of death for 10,000 Americans. Faced with evidence that pharmaceutical companies and government regulators knew the product was contaminated with HIV and hepatitis -- yet sold it anyway -- the hemophilia community launched a powerful and inspiring fight to right the system that failed them and to make it safer for all. Produced and directed by two-time Emmy Award winning filmmaker Marilyn Ness, BAD BLOOD honors the memory of those who were lost by encouraging reform today. BAD BLOOD is a Necessary Films picture, runs for 83 minutes, and is not yet MPAA rated.

This is the third in a series of screenings co-hosted by the Gay Men's Health Crisis and the four national bleeding disorders groups (National Hemophilia Foundation, Hemophilia Federation of American, World Federation of Hemophilia, and Committee of Ten Thousand). The focus of the screening series is to educate the bleeding disorders community and the gay rights community on the current effort to revise blood donor guidelines, as well as needed blood safety and FDA reform.

There will be a post film Q&A with Marilyn Ness, filmmaker; Nathan Schaefer, Director of Public Policy for GMHC, Corey Dubin, President of the Committee of Ten Thousand, and Jan Bult, President of the Plasma Protein Therapeutics Association (the pharmaceutical industry representative).
