Our April 17 feature is William Benemann William Benemann is a freelance historian whose focus is on the history of gay men in America in the early nineteenth century. He is the archivist for the School of Law at the University of California, Berkeley, as well as an adjunct curator at the Bancroft Library, where he is responsible for the Sexuality and Gender Collection. His books include A Year of Mud and Gold: San Francisco in Letters and Diaries, 1849-1850; Male-Male Intimacy in Early America; and Men In Eden: William Drummond Stewart and Same-Sex Desire in the Rocky Mountain Fur Trade. Presented by Army of Lovers, a project of the Queer Cultural Center with support from the San Francisco Arts Commission, Zellerbach Family Foundation, the National Endowment for the Arts and the California Arts Council.
