Meditation Group at Hormel Center at SF Main LibraryEvery Wednesday, 12:00 PM – 12:45 PM Meditation Group If you believe the days of quiet in the Library are gone forever, a weekly meditation group is reclaiming the calm. While computers, cell phones, laptops and other distractions have made silence seemingly scarce, the timeless tradition of meditation is available to all of us. While we cannot always control our environment, we can work with our minds to temper the internal noise and redirect habitual thought patterns. Meditation on the breath can promote inner peace and connectedness with others. Each meditation period lasts about 30 minutes and there is time for questions. Sounds of the Tibetan bell signal the beginning and end of the period. The group is led by Librarian Karen Sundheim, who has practiced Buddhist meditation for over 35 years. This group is secular and appropriate for people of all backgrounds and faiths, including atheists. Focus is on developing centeredness in the body, calmness of mind, and a compassionate view of oneself and others. Hormel Gay and Lesbian Center. Main Library Third Floor.
