Forum on Gays in the Military at SF Main LibraryAs part of Cal Humanities’ statewide initiative War Comes Home, the San Francisco Public Library, Main Branch will present a Public Conversation event, How Far We’ve Come: LGBTQ Veterans & the Military on Thursday, June 5, 6:00PM-7:30PM. The panel discussion will be facilitated by Dr. Elizabeth Hillman, Professor of Law and Provost and Academic Dean of UC Hastings Law School. The panelists for the evening include Retired Navy Commander Zoe Dunning who successfully challenged the military’s “Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell” policy; Dr. Aaron Belkin, founder of the Palm Center ; and Major Jeffrey Mueller, Co-Chair of OutServe Servicemembers’ Legal Defense Network Board of Directors. The free event takes place Thursday, June 5, 2014 from 6:00 PM- 7:30 PM SF Main Library, Koret Auditorium, 100 Larkin Street, SF, CA The event is free and open to the public. This Public Conversation, How Far We’ve Come: LGBTQ Veterans & the Military is part of War Comes Home, a statewide conversation about veterans returning to California. As the long wars in Afghanistan and Iraq wind down, how will returning soldiers come back into their communities? What do we owe to those whom our country has sent into harm’s way? How can we build bridges of understanding between those who have served and those who have not?
