Experimental queer short films at the Roxie

The Experimentals

92 Minute Running Time

Get your avant-garde on with these outstanding experimental shorts. Get down at a pool party, dip into the human psyche, go on a lesbian cruise, and groove to a musical adaptation of Rainer Maria Rilke's poem "Lovesong." Meditate on the routines in the life of a NYC call-boy, get revenge (at least in your dreams), and sip tea with a Stepford-style tea party gone awry. Get your mind blown with awesome animation, meet tattooed teacher and poet Joe Jimenez, tap into your inner guilt, and race through a war-torn city with two lovers. Dive into a kaleidoscope of men, ballerinas and horses in an impromptu corps de ballet and meet one man's version of Derek Jarman as he recreates the acclaimed artist's sexual, artistic and political awakening in post-War England.

More on one of the films:

All That Sheltering Emptiness:
DIRECTORS: Gina Carducci, Mattilda Bernstein Sycamore
All That Sheltering Emptiness is a meditation on elevators, hotel lobbies, hundred dollar bills, the bathroom, a cab, chandeliers, cocktails, the receptionist, arousal, and other routines in the life
of a New York City callboy. Gorgeously hand-processed in full 16mm glory, All That Sheltering Emptiness explodes the typical narratives of desire, escape and intimacy to evoke something more honest.
16mm, color, optical sound, 7 min.

Other films in the program: El Abuelo,
Cat's Cradle,
Cruise,
Delphinium: A Childhood Portrait of Derek Jarman,
Figs in Motion,
Gay Pool Party - 1968,
