This year's RADAR Superstars include Lambda Literary Award Winning author and Pulitzer-winning team journalist Achy Obejas; Performance video artist and filmmaker Nao Bustamante; writers Tim Miller (1001 Beds) and Alistair McCartney (The End of the World Book). SF Main Library, Koret Auditorium, enter 30 Grove St., lower level theRADARreadingseries co-presents with the National Queer Arts Festival a very special RADAR 8th Birthday Extravaganza at the San Francisco Public Library Wednesday, June 2nd with Nao Bustamante is an internationally known performance, video and installation artist originating from the San Joaquin Valley of California. Her (often precarious) work encompasses performance art, sculpture, installation and video. Bustamante has presented in Galleries, Museums, Universities and underground sites all around the world. She has exhibited, among other locales, at the Institute of Contemporary Arts in London, the New York Museum of Modern Arts, Sundance 2008, and the Kiasma Museum of Helsinki. In 2001 she received the prestigious Anonymous Was a Woman fellowship and in 2007 named a New York Foundation for the Arts Fellow, as well as a Lambent Fellow. Currently Bustamante holds the position of Associate Professor of New Media and Live Art at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute. www.naobustamante.com Alistair McCartney is the author of The End of the World Book: a Novel (University of Wisconsin Press, April, 08.) McCartney received his MFA in Creative Writing from Antioch University Los Angeles in 2001. Currently at work on his next novel The Death Book, other writings of his have appeared or are forthcoming in Fence, Bloom, Animal Shelter, 1913, James White Review, Lies/Isle and numerous literary journals, as well as in a number of fiction and creative nonfiction anthologies, including Wonderlands (University of Wisconsin Press) and Between Men (Carroll and Graf) and 50 Gay and Lesbian Books Everybody Must Read (Alyson.) Originally from Australia, since 1997 he has made his home in Los Angeles where he lives with his husband Tim Miller and teaches creative writing and literature in the MFA and BA Programs at Antioch University LA. Tim Miller is an internationally acclaimed solo performer and author. Hailed for its humor and passion, Miller's performance works have delighted and emboldened audiences all over the world at such prestigious venues as Yale Repertory Theatre, the London Institute of Contemporary Art, the Walker Art Center, Actors Theatre of Louisville and the Brooklyn Academy of Music Next Wave Festival. He is the author of the books SHIRTS & SKIN, BODY BLOWS, and 1001 BEDS, an anthology of his performances and essays which won the 2007 Lambda Literary Award for best book in Drama-Theatre. Miller has taught performance at UCLA, NYU and the Claremont School of Theology. He is a co-founder of two of the most influential performance spaces in the United States: Performance Space 122 on Manhattan's Lower East Side and Highways Performance Space in Santa Monica, CA. He lives with his husband Alistair McCartney in Venice Beach with their dog Frida, a cross between a fox and a wombat. He can be reached at his website Tina Takemoto is an interdisciplinary writer, theorist, and performance artist whose work explores issues of gender, race, illness, and queer identity. She has presented artwork and performances internationally and has received numerous grants including Art Matters, Inc. Fellowship and a New Forms Regional Initiative Grant funded by the Andy Warhol Foundation and the Rockefeller Foundation. Her articles appear in Art Journal, Performance Research, Afterimage, Women and Performance, and the anthology Thinking Through the Skin. Takemoto is associate professor of visual studies at the California College of the Arts, and she currently serves on the board of directors of the Queer Cultural Center.
