Mugsy's pop-up wine bar at El Rio - JUNE 29 (5-8+)

Wine from Mexican-American and family-owned Ceja Vineyards – Olé!

Friday, June 29th stroll into El Rio and you'll find a surprise wine bar (within a bar) serving stellar wine on the patio. Focusing on women, urban and people of color, Mugsy serves 4 varieties and costs under $10 a glass.

On a field trip to Napa we fell under the charms of Amelia Morán Ceja, president and co-owner of Ceja Vineyards. Amelia is the kind of powerhouse, cook, winemaker, youTube show producer who makes one tired.

What's most impressive is that she appears to perform all these incredible feats while heartily enjoying her family's estate-made wine from Carneros in Napa.

Amelia poured and drank alongside us. And for Mugsy's we found a refreshing 2008 Chardonnay to crow about and the scary-drinkable and smooth "Vino de Casa," a red blend of Pinot Noir and Syrah.

The president of Ceja Vineyards, Amelia met her future husband harvesting merlot grapes. Together they have built a legacy. Twice named "Best boutique winery in Napa and Sonoma." Ceja not only has an inspirational story of Mexican-American immigrants turned upscale wine producers, they make phenomenal wine.

And they drink it.

You'll have a chance to drink it too at Mugsy's pop-up wine bar at El Rio. Join us for these wines and two others June 29th 5-8+ on the patio.

Finite batch of free oysters at 5:30. Homemade piadina (Italian flatbread sandwiches) from La Piada Randagia pairs nicely and starts around 6-ish.

Mexican-American, family-made wine in the Mission. How often does that happen? At your favorite dive bar, better yet.
