Occupy U: LGBT Pride vs Queer Freedom? The recent LGBT movement in the US has focused on obtaining marriage equality and military service over issues such as LGBT youth homelessness and ending aggressive wars with their "collateral damage" of LGBT deaths abroad. These issues come to a head with the SF Pride Board's un-election of military whistleblower Bradley Manning as a Grand Marshall for the 2013 SF Pride March. Is SF Pride more about beer booths and corporate sponsorships from predatory banks than about our human rights as queers and our right to live in freedom? Where is the LGBT movement heading and what can we do about it? What: LGBT Pride vs Queer Freedom? Invited speakers will introduce a lively facilitated discussion with workshop participants on these topics: * Carmen Simon * Gabriel Haaland is Co-Vice President of Pride at Work, a constituency group of the AFL-CIO which works to mobilize mutual support between organized labor and the LGBT community. Gabriel has worked for the last 12 years at SEIU and was a Community Grand Marshal for the Pride Parade, and a former President of the Harvey Milk LGBT Democractic Club. * Robbie Clark * Sue Englander is on the Executive Board of the Harvey Milk LGBT Democratic Club. * Tommi Avicolli Mecca is a longtime queer and housing activist who was an organizer of Philadelphia's first pride march in 1972 and the editor of Smash the Church, Smash the State!: The Early Years of Gay Liberation. Facilitated by Stardust.
