Oakland: Women's Open Mic at Montclair Women's Cultural Arts

Join us this Thursday, February 18 at Third Thursday women's open mic talent showcase at Montclair Women's Cultural Arts, 1650 Mountain Blvd. in Oakland, corner of Mountain and Thornhill off Hwy. 13, 7:30 pm. 510-654-4088 for info. $ 7 - 10 sliding scale at the door.

Just a few open mic spots left. See info. below about how to sign up.

This is an all-women event and all women are welcome: an upbeat community gathering to connect with old friends, meet new ones, and enjoy fantastic entertainment.

Our features this month are comics KAREN RIPLEY and ANNIE LARSON. Queer comic and improv master KAREN was recently featured in LOGO TV's Wisecracks, and appears regularly at clubs, colleges, cruises, and festivals around the country. Her laid back style will relax and then surprise with a one-liner that will cause your head to fly back with laughter. Material covers the bluest lesbian jokes to the most thought provoking political insights. ANNIE is a gifted and versatile comic actor, and has performed at many festivals and venues throughout the Bay Area. Recent appearances include the role of Pat in the US premiere of Michael Frayn's comedy Here, in San Francisco, and as the paranoid, deluded, Countess Medussa Rappa in Iberia, a surrealist travelogue by Eddy Falconer. Karen and Annie's improv troupe, OVER OUR HEADS, was nominated for SF Cable Car awards. Together they have written two musical comedies: Show Me Where It Hurts, best musical comedy at the San Francisco Fringe Festival; and Waiting For Fema, selected as new faces on the scene for the Diva Fest Theater Project.

AND...the heart and soul of Third Thursday: YOU, either as performer or audience member. Drop in for some laughs, songs, poems, prose, instruments, spoken word, and any other talents you have. Each performer has 5 minutes to do their thing. It is an evening rich with entertainment.
